Friends…
I am veering off the topic of latchkey shenanigans to ask a favor. Would you consider contributing to a book about Guaranteed Income?
TAKE THIS SURVEY, AND BE AN AUTHOR IN UNDER TEN MINUTES! Your contribution may be chosen to be part of the narrative shaping a meaningful conversation around Guaranteed Income (GI).
From 2021-2022, I received eighteen months of Guaranteed Income from Creatives Rebuild New York (CRNY) while going through a difficult chapter of life. It was like discovering a winning lottery ticket at the bottom of a deep trench. This money proved to be a safety net as I navigated chronic illness, a craniotomy (!), and doctors endeavoring to figure out why I just wasn’t getting better.
GI granted me a bit more agency over my life as I began to reshape my artistic practice anew and kick off a recovery process that, to this day, is not yet complete. When I received this unexpected income boost, I executed new art projects that made sense for a body experiencing tremendous changes. I invested in crucial health care not covered by medical insurance, which helped me regain some of my bearings. I wrote a book from a recumbent position. I took time off from work to heal. Guaranteed Income relieved stress I didn't even know I was shouldering.
The support left me eager to stay connected to the global movement for GI, and I am setting out to learn what others would do if granted the same benefit. I am hoping for a motley crew of responses, from the urgent to the mischievous. This will be a unique book of lists, a thought experiment of intimate, tucked-away ideas.
You are invited to jot down the first ten ideas that come to mind and not worry about how polished your answers are. Even if you don't think you are someone who needs GI, perhaps you can imagine all the places you would donate the money. Here is a link to the survey: https://forms.gle/1maSrQpdY7qaVxtV9.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. I appreciate your openness. Please feel free to share this far and wide. The more varied the answers, the more interesting the book will be!
