RAFFLE ON
Dear Latchkey Kids and Allies,
It is incredibly comforting to have you by my side. As you know, I come here to write about latchkey kids and why I love them.
If you are fond of what you have been reading in this newsletter and want to bolster this work, consider becoming a paid subscriber. Think of it like a Patreon or tipping your favorite singing waiter. And I promise I won’t use all the money on strawberry ice cream crunch bars like I did when I was a latchkey kid.
PAID SUBSCRIBERS to LATCHKEY TOWNSHIP (even for just one trial month) will be entered into an enthralling and alluring raffle for a chance to win a customized mini-sculpture from mine and Neko Case’s unusual collections of found objects, which we have been amassing for decades. I started making these assemblages in December and documenting them on Instagram.
I WILL CONTACT THE PRIZE WINNER at 3:00 PM EST on JANUARY 29
…so you have until then to SUBSCRIBE!
When I was a latchkey kid and wasn’t watching copious amounts of television, I had my own deeply curated inner world made manifest by choreographed roller dances in the driveway, drawing influence from both Fame and Olivia Newton-John. I latch hooked rugs, made prank phone calls, cataloged my collection of Nancy Drew books, and designed stationery for my three-member stationery club. If I had known about the art of gluing small objects to other small objects, you bet I would have been doing that, too.
If you are new to my world and feel curious about my other work, you can find me here and here. And as always, thank you for being here.
With all the organization and purpose of a latchkey kid, I shall continue slowly to reveal stories from my book Latckey Township on Substack. Buy the book and read along.
With a bit of dazzling shimmering rock candy in my heart,
J.S. Bunnell, Sr., Town Supervisor for Latchkey Township
