Small Talk about Big Things with Neko Case & Jacinta Bunnell

for Oldster Magazine
1

Given that Substack now has a built-in, easy-to-use podcast feature, I am testing it out by revisiting and sharing this Oldster Magazine audio recording from 2021.

Neko Case and Jacinta Bunnell met in 2001 at Lynda Barry summer camp. Since then, they have been cultivating a deeply rooted friendship that includes mega-crafting, herbal lemonade, long philosophical walks with dogs, comparing supplement protocols, daring each other to eat carrot cake in fabric store parking lots, and preparing for the end of patriarchy together. You can listen to the conversation they recorded for Oldster Magazine above.

With a career spanning over twenty years, singer-songwriter-producer Neko Case has released many critically acclaimed solo albums, including Fox Confessor Brings The Flood, Middle Cyclone, and Hell-On. Her most recent record is Wild Creatures, a career-spanning retrospective album featuring essays, track commentary, and artwork by Laura Plansker. Check out Neko’s beautiful Substack, Entering the Lung.

Jacinta Bunnell is an artist and writer living in the Hudson Valley. Her first children's book, A More Graceful Shaboom, came out in 2020. She publishes the Substack Latchkey Township. She has artistically collaborated with The Woodstock Film Festival, Hudson Valley Seed Company, Elizabeth Mitchell, Laura Stevenson, and other artists and musicians. Learn more about Jacinta’s books here.
