SURPRISE, A NEW BOOK! AND SOME CRAFT SALES
In honor of my latchkey brother-from-another-mother Scotty S., who once hosted an elaborate yardsale all by his eight-year-old self while his parents were off running a car dealership, I offer up to Hudson Valley folks some singular, charming, and hyper-local (one is even in my friend’s house!) winter gift sales.
But first, let me introduce you to my new book, Believing In That Which Does Not Yet Exist: Visions of Guaranteed Income.
NEW BOOK
A few years ago, I received Guaranteed Income (GI) from Creatives Rebuild New York. This initiative concentrated solely on artists and was one of the U.S.'s most significant projects of its kind. This support made me eager to connect to other GI movements and learn what others might do if granted a similar opportunity.
This limited edition book contains full-color photographs and over eighty lists collected from people of all walks of life who answered the question, “What would you do if granted guaranteed income for two years, no strings attached?”
The lists each person contributed are hilarious, heartbreaking, heartfelt, surprising, and thoughtful. Sharon Wasko and I picked up the books from the printer just last night! Michael Wilcock and Sharon were my design doulas throughout the book's design process, ensuring that every page turned out just right since this was my first time designing a book by myself!
It was indeed one of the most lovely experiences of my life to receive each thoughtful contribution and place them next to one another within the context of a larger movement for economic justice. What the book reveals is a pretty fantastic collection of wishes for a heartening future—for ourselves, for the globe, for our soil, for our grandparents, for our cat’s dental health. Each time I read through the book, I discover something new or feel it in a new way. I always laugh. And I have most definitely teared up thinking about the depth and sweetness of the wishes contained within. My heart feels brimming with something like faith or hope, imagining how the world might receive the dreams contained within this book.
Contributing writers are Mike Amari, Brenda Antoine (that’s my mom!), Eric Ayotte, Iya Brenda, Deborah Degraffenreid, Sophi Kravitz, Zia Lawrence, Beth Lisick, Dan Nelson, Destiny Riviello, and Jennifer Hoyt Tidwell, just to name a few!
