One of the most important things about sharing our stories is the way it incites others to think about their own, and to start to weave or untangle the threads. You have me thinking about how I imprinted on Alan Alda at a very young age, what with those back to back MASH episodes at 4:00 and 4:30 every afternoon. And how I wasn't allowed to watch Love Boat (but certainly did anyway...). How I rearranged the furniture in my room just about weekly. How all of my books saved from childhood have the random highlighting and underlining of me emulating my preoccupied grad school mother. About Knox gelatin. About the candy recipe on the back of the box of confectioners sugar that I ate by the bowlful. About my best friend Rebecca (whose mother was also in grad school) and I waiting in the school nurses office until after 5:00 to be picked up by my father when we both had lice. About the cassette recordings I made of me hosting my own radio station. About the prank calls. So many prank calls.
These memory artifacts are so important. Thank you for honoring them.
M*A*S*H, prank calls, a passion for rearranging, and highlighting books even though we didn't know what it meant...All these things add up to forever more in common. Thank you for sharing this. <3 <3 <3
